Find the artist’s self-portrait in the bottom center and then follow the lines connected to her. Where do they lead?
Thorley’s work is rooted in family history and the journey we go through to find and connect to our ancestors.
How does our family help shape our lives? How can we learn more about ourselves through someone we have never met?

This painting explores the artist’s connection to her female ancestors. She stands in a graveyard surrounded by a group of lilies that symbolize femininity, love, and the souls of those departed. A red ribbon ties each side of her ancestresses to her; each of them influencing her identity and the person she is today.
What part of your identity are you most proud of?
